So I just remembered something pertaining to people not liking the satire ‘Dear White People.’
Some people just don’t think black people have the intellectual capabilities to make a satire. An example of this is last year when two songs came out about EBT. The creators of ‘Swipe Yo EBT’ and ‘Mr EBT’ both stated that their work was satires and they were a way to get this issue out in the open for a discussion among the black community.
Conservatives and white racists ate it up and believed that the two songs were actually praising black people’s dependence on EBT and how those on it can cheat the government out of their money because they had a case of selective reading and did not see that it was a satire. I remember pointing the disclaimer on one of the videos explaining the purpose of one of the songs out on an infamous blog that attracts a wide variety of white racists and anti-black people of color. It was ultimately ignored.
Just want to put it out there….
Fuck look at the Shit white girls say to Black girls and all the WWT that caused
oh and this gem from years ago
It really sheds light on how people view black people. To them we’re not capable of any intellectual or creative work that summarizes our experiences and/or problems.
The Shit White Girls say to Black Girls fiasco was ridiculous because people were more concerned about her portraying white people as ignorant, even though those were actual comments said to her, than the ignorance displayed by many white people who have said those things to their black friends.
