With the dust settling after three rounds of Presidential debates and Newsweek recently announcing their departure from print, this coincidental find seemed like an amazing snapshot at how much things have changed in 50 years. Isn’t it mind-blowing to look at pieces from our past and be reminded of how much we’ve evolved as a culture and a country?
Left the name out for privacy. But he says it PERFECTLY, and guess what, he’s black! So everyone should read this because he’s spot on.
He’s black, he didn’t find it racist. There are other black people did. So…
People are blowing this Waverly racism and domestic violence “scandal” way out of proportion. It’s so aggravating. Waverly is not at allllll racist in any way shape or form.
Blackface is racist. And the fact that they chose to do blackface instead of using white celebrities such as Sean Penn or Michael Fassbender for the issue….
Maybe this one needs to ask why there’s an African American section.
Maybe it’s because books with black protags are immediately labeled ‘Urban Novels’ no matter what.
#white logic
I would like to start this off by stating that all of what I am about to say is my unsolicited opinion. I will not hesitate in being held accountable for anything that is about to be said.
In life, there are so many why’s that people ask, and receive no answer. I am writing this to answer some of the whys that many people of your race have asked my Black brethren. So, without further ado;
- Why is there a Black Entertainment Television? If there was a White Entertainment Television, that’d be racist, right?
For beginners, BET is owned by Viacom, which is run by white people. BET was created to give an opportunity for Black people who wanted to pursue careers in the entertainment because they didn’t have as many chances with other networks and agencies. BET created jobs for Black people that they might not have gotten back then with MTV, CMT, Oxygen, etc. BET helped push black music and entertainment become more mainstream than it ever would have been on any other network. Because your ancestors, who refused to let my ancestors get the same opportunities as them, BET was created. So don’t get mad at Black people if you don’t like BET; blame your race for not being fair to us.- Why are Historically Black Colleges and Universities still around? That’s racist too.
Just as with the BET argument, HBCU’s were created to give Black people a chance; in this case, they received an opportunity to progress academically. Once again, the racism and discrimination by white people can be the root cause for the rise of these institutions.
In 1890, if a Black kid with little money, a 4.5 GPA, and the IQ of a rocket scientist were vying for a spot at Harvard with a rich White kid who had a 3.0 and cheated his way through high school, the Black kid would lose. With the creation of HBCU’s, these same Black kids, as well as the rest of my race, now had a chance to get a degree and show the world that they are educated. However, even with these degrees, they still were discriminated against because HBCU’s were looked down upon back in the day. In fact, sometimes they still are. If you ask an employer to make a choice between a Clemson graduate and a Howard University graduate, with no background information, they’d probably chose the Clemson grad. PWI’s (Prominently White Institutes) have long been deemed “superior” than HBCU’s, for reasons that I am still unsure of.
This doesn’t mean that HBCU’s are only for Black people, however. With the exception of Spellman and Morehouse, who are both gender-specific HBCU’s, anyone is welcome to an HBCU regardless of any demographic category they belong to. Not to say that Black people aren’t welcome to PWI’s, because we definitely are. But, in part due to our low percentage of citizenship in this country, Black people will always be underrepresented at PWI’s and always well represented at HBCU’s.- Why can’t I say the “N” word? Black people use it all the time.
I have a question for you. How much do you enjoy your life? Because if you like it the least bit, you won’t use it. I say that because not all of my black brothers and sisters think rationally, and a white person using the N word, in any of it’s derivatives, around them could result in some very serious consequences. But, in all seriousness, why do you yearn to use the N word so much? It’s honestly not that special. I personally prefer not to use the word, but that’s just me. If you think it’ll make you seem “cool” with Black people, then you’ve got another thing coming.
The “N” word plus White people has been historically linked to horrendous acts of hate from White people to Black people. In the past, hearing the “N” word from a White person could very well be the last word a Black person would ever hear. Regardless of who the White person is, hearing the “N” word from their mouth will always sting a little bit with Black people.White people, I don’t blame you for asking the questions that you do. Being born into a race that is historically privileged, it’s understandable that you wouldn’t think like we do. However, I (as well as the rest of my race) would deeply appreciate it if you would make an honest attempt at comprehending and accepting our answers to your constant, repetitive questions before you insist on trying to pull a race card on us. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask, and I would be glad to address them.
Sincerely,
-Benjamin McKnight III
African Americans need to fucking STOP pulling the slavery heritage card!
I’m Native American.
You know what that means? My people were mass murdered, raped, kicked off our own land, converted and guess what?
WERE THE VERY FIRST FUCKING SLAVES IN THIS COUNTRY BECAUSE IT WAS OUR LAND FIRST!
You learn about The Trail of Tears in history class for about a week. WE GET ONE SMALL WEEK IN ONE CLASS. WE DON’T GET A FUCKING MONTH! You don’t hear me going around saying “Is it because I’m indian?” “You don’t get to speak to me like that, youuuuu don’t know what my ancestors went through”
First off, neither do you because you live in the 21st century.
Second off, your own people sold one another to the white men so look in the mirror and be pissed.
Third off, get the fuck overt it. You get free fucking college and benefits because of what your ancestors went through even if you’re like 1/16. I’m fucking 25% Indian but i don’t get benefits so shut the fuck up because my race got fucked harder! There is no excuse to be racist towards all white people now because all white people were once racist towards your ancestors. Past is the past, especially when it isn’t your very own past.
Slavery was fucked up.
Racism is fucked up but people need to stop pulling the race card in order to get rid of racism.
Best way to do that is picture everyone as your favourite color, that way they are all lovely and equal to you. It isn’t until you get to know them on the inside that you get to turn them to your least favourite color. I see everyone as lime green until you piss me off, then you become an ugly ass yellowish/orange color!Dear White Folk,
Saying the phrase “I’m not racist, but” is a clear indicator that you actually are a racist.Dear White Folk,
There is no such thing as a Race Card which gets us out of any situation.Dear White Folk,
Colorblindness is a facet of racism.Dear White Folk,
Good for you if you have Native American heritage, but you’re still white. Being 1/8th Cherokee or whatever or less doesn’t count. You don’t get to play the “Native American Race Card”.Native American Heritage Month is in November…just sayin
And where’s this free college education? I got to pay 8,000 out of pocket, so that could come in handy.
So I was being nosy and checked out OP’s blog.
I’m definitely more English/Scottish/Irish than I am Portuguese and Native American.
:/
